Planogram keyboard shortcuts for the editor and store map

Every shortcut in the planogram editor and store map, with the click route for each one.

Help center / Getting started

Nothing in headoffis requires dragging. Every keyboard action below has a button or form field as well. Inside the workspace, Help & shortcuts in the top bar shows the same list.

Planogram editor

Press Tab to reach a placement on the shelf, or click it, so that it has focus. The keys act on the focused product.

  • Left or right arrow: move the focused product by 0.5 in.
  • Shift with left or right arrow: move by 2 in.
  • Up or down arrow: move to the shelf above or below.
  • Delete or Backspace: remove the focused placement.
  • Ctrl+Z, or Cmd+Z on a Mac: undo your last placement edit.
  • Ctrl+Shift+Z, or Cmd+Shift+Z: redo.

Store map

Tab to a wall, aisle or fixture on the map, or click it, to give it focus.

  • Arrow keys: move the focused item 6 in.
  • Shift with an arrow key: move 1 ft.
  • R: rotate a fixture or aisle by 90 degrees.
  • Enter or Space: select the focused item and show its details.
  • Delete or Backspace: remove the focused item.
  • Escape: cancel drawing a wall or aisle.
  • Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z: undo and redo the last 50 map edits.

How the keys behave

  • Form fields come first. While you type in a field, such as a placement's position or facings, the arrow keys and Ctrl+Z edit the field, not the shelf.
  • Products stop at the shelf edges. The arrows never push a row past the left edge or the right edge of the shelf, and Up on the top shelf or Down on the bottom shelf leaves the product where it is.
  • Undo has a scope. In the editor, undo and redo cover your placement edits for the current session. On the store map they cover the last 50 map edits.
  • Read-only layouts ignore the keys. The keys move placements only in a draft. When a planogram is in review or approved, or your role does not include layout changes, they do nothing.

A drag and drop alternative for every action

You can drag a product onto a shelf or drag an item on the map, but each of those actions has a click or keyboard route as well:

  • Add a product: find it in the library on the left and press + beside it.
  • Move a product or change its facings: select the placement and change its shelf, its position from the left edge, its facings or its note.
  • Draw walls and aisles: choose Draw wall or Draw aisle and click two points, or use Add wall and Add aisle by size to enter the numbers in a form.
  • Place a map item exactly: select it and use Edit details for coordinates in inches.
  • Rotate or remove a map item: select it and choose Rotate 90° or remove it from the same panel.
  • Undo and redo: use the buttons in the planogram toolbar or the map toolbar.

The W3C's guidance on dragging movements asks that anything done by dragging can be done with a single pointer without dragging, and its keyboard criterion asks that every function work from a keyboard. Those two ideas shaped the list above.

Worked example: nudging a row into place

A layout check says a row of crackers overlaps the cereal to its right. Tab to the crackers, press Left four times to move them 2 in, and the overlap clears. If the move was a mistake, press Ctrl+Z and the row returns to where it was. To send the crackers to the shelf below instead, press Down once.

Frequently asked questions

Which keys undo and redo a change?

The keyboard shortcut for undo in headoffis is Ctrl+Z, or Cmd+Z on a Mac, and the keyboard shortcut for redo is the same combination with Shift held down. Both work in the planogram editor and on the store map.

How to undo on a Mac

Press Command and Z together. Apple's list of Mac keyboard shortcuts gives Command-Z for undo and Shift-Command-Z for redo, and headoffis follows the same pattern.

What does Ctrl Shift Z do?

In most programs it redoes the step you last undid. In headoffis it redoes your last undone placement edit in the planogram editor, or your last undone edit on the store map.

What is the difference between Delete and Backspace?

In text, Backspace removes the character before the cursor and Delete removes the character after it. On a Mac the key labeled Delete works like Backspace, and Fn with Delete is a forward delete. In headoffis either key removes the focused placement or map item, so the label on your keyboard does not matter.

What does the Escape key do?

On the store map, Escape cancels a wall or aisle you have started drawing, after the first click and before the second. In the planogram editor it closes the layout checks panel while that panel has focus.

How to use a website without a mouse?

Press Tab to move to the next control and Shift+Tab to move back, then press Enter or Space to choose it. In headoffis, Tab reaches each placement on a shelf and each item on the store map, and the arrow keys take over from there.

Is there a shortcut to rotate 90 degrees?

On the store map, press R to turn a focused fixture or aisle a quarter turn. Walls do not rotate; draw them again at the new angle.
