Explore sales & statsWhat is a planogram
A planogram is a drawing of one fixture that shows which product goes on which shelf, how many facings it gets, and where each facing sits from left to right. Grocery, convenience, gift, beauty and specialty stores use them so that a layout decided once is set up the same way by every person who stocks the shelf. The drawing only works when the fixture and the packages are measured, which is why headoffis starts with dimensions rather than with pictures.
How to make a planogram
Start with the fixture: its width, the number of shelves, and the height between them. Add the products that belong on it with their measured package sizes, then place facings shelf by shelf. headoffis checks each placement against the space that is left, so a package that is too tall or a row that overruns the shelf edge is flagged before the layout is approved. Undo and review are built in, and nothing reaches the store until an owner or manager approves the version.
Shelf planning software that fits an independent store
Most shelf planners are priced and designed for chains with a category team and clean enterprise data. headoffis is planogram software for small business owners who do the planning themselves between deliveries. There is no import template to complete before the first layout and no training course. Planogram software pricing at that scale often starts with a sales call, while headoffis starts at US$29 per business each month. A first planogram for one fixture takes an afternoon with a tape measure.
A store layout planner for aisles and fixtures
The store map is a floor planner drawn to scale. Walls, aisles and fixtures are placed on a plan of the floor, and each fixture links to the planogram it carries, so a change to one shelf is visible in the map of the whole store. Layout checks on aisle width are advisory and record the rule they came from. The 2010 ADA Standards set the accessible route requirements that most U.S. stores plan against, and the U.S. Access Board guide to accessible routes explains how those routes are measured. A shelf plan is not a code certification, and headoffis never claims one.
Retail shelf management after the layout is approved
Shelf management continues after the drawing is signed off. Inventory is counted by location, so the shelf, the backroom and the delivery cage each carry their own count, and stock can be moved between them. Low-stock alerts fire against the count on the shelf, and sales are recorded against stock so the sell-through of each product is visible next to its facings.
How to read a planogram
Each row of the drawing is one shelf, read from the top shelf down. Each block on a row is one facing, and the number of identical blocks side by side is the facing count for that product. The checklist headoffis generates follows the same order, shelf by shelf and left to right, so a staff member can work through it with a box cutter in one hand and a phone in the other, ticking each line as the facing goes up.
Planogram example
A single four-shelf gondola of hand soap is a useful example. The top shelf carries the three premium lines at two facings each. The second and third shelves, at eye level, carry the best sellers at four facings each. The bottom shelf holds the refill packs, which are heavy and sell slowly. In headoffis, that layout is a fixture with four shelves, eleven products with measured sizes, and a set of placements with the fit checks all clear.
