Order details
Lines are sorted by zone or aisle, and the bin order reverses in every second zone, so the picker walks up one aisle and back down the next. Name zones in the order you walk them, such as Aisle 1, Aisle 2, Stockroom.

A pick list tells the person gathering an order what to collect, how many, and where to find each item. This free pick list generator sorts the order lines by zone, aisle, bay and shelf, so the picker walks the shop or stockroom once instead of crossing back and forth. Each line has columns for the quantity picked, any shortfall and a substitute, with picker and checker sign-off at the bottom. The editable sample is a fictional shop's click-and-collect order picked on November 4, 2026.
Make a pick list
Enter a list title and, if you like, the business name, the order or reference number and who the order is for. Set the pick date.
Choose a walking order: location order, the S-shape (snake) route, or the order lines as entered.
Add each line with an optional SKU, a description, the quantity ordered and a unit such as each, pack or case.
Give each line a location: a zone or aisle, such as "Aisle 2" or "Stockroom", and a bay, shelf or bin, such as "04-2" for bay 04, shelf 2.
While picking, or afterward, enter the quantity picked and any substitute. Add the picker's and checker's names, then print the list or download it. A list holds up to 100 lines.
Use Start blank for your own order or Reset sample to see the example again. The up and down buttons reorder the lines, which matters when you keep them in order-line order.
Set locations for a walking order
Location order groups the lines by zone and sorts each zone by bay, shelf or bin. Numbers sort the way people read them, so Aisle 2 comes before Aisle 10 and bay 4 before bay 12, and capital letters are ignored. Name zones in the order you walk them. Lines without a zone come last, and a line with no location at all is listed in the check.
The S-shape route reverses the bin order in every second zone, so the picker walks up one aisle and back down the next. In the sample, Aisle 1 runs from bay 02 to bay 05 and Aisle 2 runs back from bay 04 to bay 01. Bartholdi and Hackman's free textbook Warehouse & Distribution Science points out that a serpentine path can add travel along aisles that hold nothing for the order. Zones without a line are left out of this list, so the route visits only the aisles it needs.
Short, consistent location labels make a list faster to follow. Put matching labels on the shelves, use the same number of digits for bays, and keep heavy items such as cases of honey near the end of the walk. HSE's guidance on manual handling at work covers lifting and carrying safely when an order includes bulky stock.
Picked, short and substitute columns
Each line shows a status worked out from what you enter:
Not picked while the picked quantity is blank. The printout shows an empty box to fill in by hand.
Picked when the picked quantity matches the order.
Short when fewer were picked. The Short column shows how many are missing.
Substituted when a substitute is named. Enter how many of the substitute were picked.
Over-picked when more were picked than ordered, with no substitute.
The pick list check never blocks printing. It flags a SKU on more than one line, any over-picked line and lines without a location. Short lines are worth a note, such as "Only 7 on the shelf", so the person packing the order knows what to tell the customer. A repeated short is a sign to recount the item with the stocktake tool or reorder it with a purchase order.
Print or download the pick list
Print / PDF opens the browser's print dialog, where you can choose a printer or save a PDF. The printout shows the order details, totals by status and by unit, the lines grouped by zone with a stop number, a checker's tick box on every line, and signature and time lines for the picker and checker. The CSV holds one row per line in walking order, ready for a spreadsheet.
The draft stays in this browser tab when browser storage is available. Download a copy before closing the tab. Nothing is uploaded, and picking from this list changes no stock records.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a pick list without an account?
Yes. The pick list generator runs in your browser and needs no sign-up. Print or download the list to keep it.
What is the difference between a pick list and a packing slip?
A pick list is for the person collecting the items and is sorted by location. A packing slip goes in the parcel and is sorted the way the customer ordered. When the order is packed, make the slip with the delivery note and packing slip generator. For goods arriving from a supplier, use the delivery receiving checklist.
Does the pick list update my stock?
No. It is a working sheet that does not reserve or deduct stock. Record what was picked in your own system afterward.
What should I put in the SKU column?
Use the code printed on the shelf label, so the picker can match the item at a glance. If your products have no codes yet, the SKU generator can create consistent ones.
