Make a clear sale sign for your shop window, shelf end or counter. This free sale sign maker turns the offer into a big headline, works out the new price and the saving, and prints one, two or four signs to a page. Start with the fictional sample, change the offer and print.
Make a sale sign
- Choose a headline, such as Sale, Special offer or Clearance, and say what is on offer.
- Pick the type of offer: percent off, amount off, an offer price, a multibuy such as 3 for $10, or buy some, get some free.
- Enter the offer and, if you want the saving on the sign, the price it was.
- Add an end date and any small print, such as while stocks last.
- Choose one sign per page for a window, two for a shelf end or counter, or four for a shelf edge.
- Pick an accent color and the paper, then print and cut along the dashed lines.
The sign works out the numbers. With 30% off a $20.00 price, it shows Was $20, Now $14 and Save $6. With an offer price of $9.99 against a was price of $12.50, it shows Save $2.51. The maker rounds to the cent and checks that the offer is really lower than the price it replaces.
Show a fair was price
Only show a was price you have actually charged, for a reasonable period, before the sale. Rules on reference prices differ by country and state. In the United States the FTC's Guides Against Deceptive Pricing explain former price comparisons, and in the UK the CMA has guidance on being transparent about prices. Check the rules where you trade; this page is not legal advice.
Make sure the till charges the sale price before the sign goes up, and take the sign down when the offer ends.
Where to put sale signs
A full-page sign suits the window or the entrance. Half-page signs fit a shelf end or the counter, and quarter-page signs sit on the shelf beside the product. Keep one offer per sign, so the price is easy to read from a few steps away. For shelf edge price labels with barcodes, use the shelf label maker, and check that a discount still leaves a margin with the margin and markup calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make sale signs without an account?
Yes. The maker opens with an editable sample and works without a login or email address. Nothing you type is uploaded.
Does this change my prices?
No. The sign is a printout only. Change the price in your till or online shop separately.
Can I save a sign and use it again?
Save the sign as a file and open it on this page later. The draft is held only in this browser tab: it survives a refresh, and closing the tab clears it.
