A planogram gives each product a place on a shelf. This free planogram maker starts with a fictional pantry display, so you can change the widths and facings and see how much space remains on each shelf. A facing is one product visible from the front; three facings place three packs side by side.
It works as an online planogram tool for one fixture at a time, with no account and nothing to install. That makes it a good fit for a small store planogram, a seasonal bay or a quick check before you reset a shelf. Before you start, measure the fixture with our guide on how to measure a shelf for a planogram.
How to use the builder
- Give the display a name. Measure the usable width inside your shelf uprights and enter it in centimeters, then choose from one to six shelves. Shelf 1 is the top shelf.
- For each product, enter a name, its width in centimeters and the number of facings, then choose its shelf. Use Add product for a new row and the trash button to remove one.
- Use the up and down arrows to set the order. Products appear on each shelf in list order, from left to right.
- Read the used and free width under each shelf. If a shelf is over capacity, the preview lists by how many centimeters, so reduce facings, move a product or widen the shelf.
- Choose Download text for the placement list, or Print / PDF for the visual plan. Check height, depth and weight limits on the actual fixture.
What the sample plan shows
The sample is a planogram template you can edit in place: a 100 cm fixture with three shelves and six products. Each product takes its width times its facings.
| Shelf | Products (width × facings) | Used | Free |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shelf 1 | Granola 12 cm × 4, Oats 10 cm × 4 | 88 cm | 12 cm |
| Shelf 2 | Coffee 10 cm × 3, Tea 8 cm × 5 | 70 cm | 30 cm |
| Shelf 3 | Pasta 9 cm × 4, Rice 12 cm × 4 | 84 cm | 16 cm |
That adds up to 24 front facings. Shelf 2 has the most room left, so it is the natural place to try an extra facing of tea or a new product before you touch the physical shelf.
Limits and units
The builder keeps a simple planogram simple on purpose.
- One fixture. Up to six shelves of the same width, from 1 to 1000 cm, and up to twelve product rows.
- Centimeters only. Widths accept up to two decimal places. Facings are whole numbers from 1 to 20 per product. If your tape reads in inches, convert first; the NIST page on SI units of length gives the exact definition of the inch as 25.4 mm, so 1 inch is 2.54 cm.
- Width to scale. The front view scales horizontal space only. Product heights in the preview are illustrative.
- Front facings only. The plan counts what faces the customer, not stock behind it. Depth, stacking, clearances, shelf load and package rotation are not modeled. For a rough count of units on one shelf, use the shelf capacity calculator.
Shelf load matters as much as width. Check the weight rating for each shelf with the fixture maker, and keep stacked goods stable. For storage areas, the OSHA rule on handling and storing materials, 29 CFR 1910.176, says goods stored in tiers must be stacked, blocked, interlocked and limited in height so they are stable and secure against sliding or collapse.
Frequently asked questions
How to plan shelf space
Start with the usable width of the shelf, then give each product enough facings to hold its expected sales between restocks. Put products that sell together beside each other, check the free width on each shelf, and keep a little room for new lines. Adjust the facings after a few weeks of sales.
What does the shelf layout show?
The preview draws each shelf as a bar, with one block per product and one mark per facing, numbered to match the product list. Under each shelf you see centimeters used and free, plus a key of products and facings in left-to-right order.
Can I get a printable planogram?
Yes. Choose Print / PDF and save the visual plan from your browser's print dialog, or send it to a printer. The printed copy includes the display name, each shelf and a placement list. Download text gives the same placement list as plain text.
Can I save my shelf plan?
There is no saved account or share link. Your draft stays on this page, and refreshing or leaving resets it, so download or print before you go. Reset sample brings back the pantry display.
