Reorder point calculator for retail stock
Estimate the stock level that triggers a replenishment review using daily demand, delivery time and a buffer.
Formula and worked example
Average daily units × lead time in days + buffer units; rounded up to a whole unit.
Illustrative example: 6 units a day × 5 days + 12 buffer units = a trigger at 42 units.
Before you use the result
- Use the time from placing an order to stock becoming available for sale, in calendar days. Match your daily sales average to the same calendar basis.
- This is a trigger for review, not the quantity to order. Check open orders, transfers, minimum order quantities and shelf space before buying.
- The estimate assumes steady average demand. Promotions, stockouts and changing delivery times need a separate review.
