Safety stock calculator using buffer days
Convert your chosen number of extra selling days into a whole-unit stock buffer.
Formula and worked example
Average daily units × chosen buffer days; rounded up to a whole unit.
Illustrative example: 6 units a day × 2 extra days = 12 buffer units.
Before you use the result
- This uses the simple buffer-days method. You choose the extra days; the tool does not infer them from demand or delivery variability.
- It does not calculate a statistical service level or promise a stockout probability. A variable-demand model needs more history and explicit assumptions.
- Review the cost, space and shelf life of extra stock before adopting the result. Enter zero days if you deliberately want no extra buffer.
