Turn a list of things to do into a clear view of what is next, what is moving and what is finished. This online task board gives each card a title, notes, an owner label, a priority and an optional due date, and you can use it without signing in. Try the fictional sample week or start with an empty board.
It works as a free kanban board in its basic form: three columns, cards that move from left to right, and a progress count at the top. It has no work-in-progress limits, swimlanes or automation, so it stays quick to learn.
How to use the taskboard
- Name your board, then choose Add task at the top or under any column.
- Enter the title, notes, an owner label, a low, normal or high priority and an optional due date. Choose Add to board.
- Move a card by dragging it, by using its arrow buttons, or by choosing a different column in the task editor and applying the change. A moved card goes to the end of its new column.
- Search by title, owner or notes. Filter by priority, or show open tasks due by your review date or tasks with no due date.
- Choose Download board file before you leave, and use Open a board file to continue later. Download text and Print / PDF include the whole board, even while the screen is filtered.
The arrow buttons and the editor's column choice work with a keyboard and on phones, so dragging is never required. Moving cards pauses while a task has unapplied changes, so apply or cancel your edit first.
Kanban board for small teams
A shared board keeps a small team from asking the same question twice: who is doing what, and is it finished? The GOV.UK Service Manual describes a team wall as a shared space that keeps a visual record of a team's work, typically covering work in progress, work not yet started and work that is done. Its page on agile tools and techniques covers team walls alongside other planning habits.
This board gives that idea a digital form for a shop or office. Owner labels are plain text, so write the name people use on the shift. The progress indicator counts every completed task, including cards hidden by a filter. For work spread across several stores, the guide to multi location task management covers owners, briefs and reviews in more depth.
Priorities and due dates
Use the priority field to mark which cards need attention first: high for work that blocks other jobs or has a close deadline, normal for most cards and low for anything that can wait. Clear task priority works best when only a few cards are high at once.
The review date starts with your device's local date. Choose Due by review date to see open cards due on or before it; overdue cards are marked on the board. Completed cards are excluded from due-date filters. Due dates do not send reminders, and owner labels do not notify anyone.
Frequently asked questions
What is a task board?
A task board shows work as cards arranged in columns by status. Moving a card from one column to the next records progress, so anyone can see what is waiting, what is underway and what is finished.
To do in progress done: what do the three columns mean?
To do holds work nobody has started. In progress holds work someone is actively doing. Done holds finished work, which stays on the board so the progress count reflects it. These three are the only columns; they cannot be renamed or added to.
How to use a kanban board
Add every task to To do, pull a card into In progress when you start it, and move it to Done when it is complete. Review the board at a set time each day or week, and keep the number of cards in progress small so each one gets finished.
Can I start from a sample board?
Yes. The sample board, "The week ahead", works as a kanban board template with fictional retail tasks. Edit its cards, or choose Start empty for a clean board.
Does the board save automatically?
No. Changes stay in page memory and reset when you refresh or leave. Download a board file to keep up to 100 tasks, then open it here to continue. Files up to 1 MB are read on your device without uploading, and you review the task count before the file replaces your board.
Can I make a printable kanban board?
Yes. Choose Print / PDF to print the whole board, column by column, or save it as a PDF. To share with your team, pass on a printed copy or a downloaded file. Each person works on a separate copy; there is no live collaboration or account sync. To track contacts and follow-ups instead, try the contact list tool.
